Recordings
Grand Variety

Our big news is that record producers Silver Street Music have
produced a brand new CD of the Southampton Compton, recorded in August
2011 which features the incomparable Richard Hills.
This is a full album of superb music recorded on this amazing
instrument, using high quality mics and a digital recording rig. The album title
is Grand Variety.
Full details can be found at the Silver Street
Music website - www.silverst.co.uk
The
CD, organ and Richard were featured on a special programme dedicated to the
organ on Radio 2's The Organist Entertains in January, with a great interview
from Richard.
The release date marks the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Guildhall -
13th Feb 1937. The album features a track list totally by British composers and
is designed to highlight the vast range of music styles, tone colours and
dynamics possible on this amazing instrument. There are four 'classical' works,
including Alfred Hollins Concert overture in C minor and Brewer's March
Heroique, as well as orchestral masterpieces such as Frederick curzon's In
Malaga suite, and theatre organ gems such as A nightingale sang in Berkeley
Square. Full track list is on the above website. Richard Hills is a master
musician who is one of only a very few who can play the range of music being
presented on this unique recording.
International organ star Carlo Curley
has undertaken the 'official' review of it and given a glowing report. We are
also hoping for further press coverage. The album is for sale via the Silver
Street Music website (with credit card payment via Paypal, or mail order) and
there are preview clips of each track to listen to. See
